When ‘Follow Me’ Doesn’t Mean Follow Through: My Drone Experience & What TikTok Shop Got Wrong

“This Drone Couldn’t Even Follow Me…”
And neither did TikTok Shop’s support. Here’s what happened — and what creators should know.

You ever buy something with high hopes and end up with a drone that can’t even follow you around the backyard, much less your vision?

That was me.

I ordered a drone from TikTok Shop that claimed it had the “Follow Me” feature — the selling point that sealed the deal. As someone who creates, hustles, and juggles multiple projects, I knew that hands-free tracking would help me shoot content while I stayed in motion. It wasn’t just a bonus… it was the whole reason I bought it.

But when I finally tested that feature — surprise — it didn’t exist.

Not glitchy. Not buggy. Nonexistent.

Now to be fair, I didn’t try that specific function right away. Life happens. Projects stacked up, and by the time I dug back in to test the drone’s full potential, I was just outside TikTok Shop’s 90-day return window. That’s on me.

But here’s where it gets frustrating…

I wasn’t asking for the moon. I wasn’t even asking for a refund.

What I wanted was a real response — a sign that they saw the issue, acknowledged the misleading product listing, and would take steps to protect the next buyer. Instead, I got silence. Then a generic survey email with no connection to the original support message I sent.

Let me say that again:

❌ No one addressed the fact that the drone didn’t include a key feature they heavily promoted.
❌ No effort to clarify, fix, or even respond like a human.

Just “sorry, 90 days are up.” As if that’s the full story.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just about one drone or one customer.
It’s about how platforms handle accountability vs automation.

If you’re going to sell tools to creators, then support the creators who use them. Otherwise, what are we even doing here?

What I Learned:

  • Always test gear within the first week (no matter how packed life is)
  • Document your setup on video if it’s for creative use — helps prove your case
  • And most importantly: Don’t be afraid to tell the truth publicly when support lets you down.

Because if no one talks about it, it’ll keep happening to the next person.
